How to choose a live-edge fireplace mantle
Measure the fireplace opening first. Note the width of the opening, the wall space on each side, how far the mantle should project, and the height you want above the firebox or tile. Most homeowners want a few inches of overhang on each end. If you are replacing an existing mantle, measure that piece too.
Then decide between two styles:
• Live-edge slab mantle — a single piece with the natural edge. Good for modern and rustic rooms. Thickness is usually in the 1.5”–3.5” range unless listed otherwise.
• Squared or reclaimed beam — thicker timber, sometimes hand-hewn or 1800s oak. Better when you want a heavy, structural look.

Wood species we sell for mantles
Walnut, white oak, red oak, ash, cherry, hickory, maple, elm, poplar, and knotty or wormy pine. We also list reclaimed barn beams when we have them. Figure, mineral streak, spalting, and live edge vary by piece. The character varies a lot from piece to piece.
Drying and readiness
Pieces are air-dried, then kiln-dried so they are stable enough for indoor use as a mantle or shelf. They are sold as wood — finishing (sanding, stain, oil, or clear coat) is up to you unless a listing says otherwise.
Shipping and pickup
In-stock mantles can ship or be picked up. Pickup is at the farm in Salineville, Ohio (Columbiana County). Freight on long beams costs more than a short board; ask before you check out if the piece is over about 8 feet or very heavy.

They are unfinished - Most customers finish sand and finish after delivery.

Yes. Pickup and viewing are in Salineville, Ohio. Call first so the piece can be put on hold for you

Buy the closest longer board and trim it, or contact us if you need help choosing. We do not keep infinite copies of one SKU.
